More than 1000 municipalities have adopted Complete Streets policies across the country. While some have tackled an infrastructure project or two, few have ironed out the details to develop processes and protocol that fully embrace Complete Streets throughout the entire project delivery process. This session will focus on the nuts and bolts of Complete Streets policy implementation in small and under resourced communities where limited staff capacity, professional expertise, and/or access to funding hinder success. Drawing from Active Transportation Alliance’s work in 8 low and moderate income communities in suburban Cook County, this presentation will provide strategies and tools to aid communities in the development of a complete streets approach. Examples will include project review checklists, funding decision making, development guidelines, and strategies community outreach and education.
