Model Complete Street Policies for Pedestrian Safety (Lauren Blackburn): As part of the FHWA Every Day Counts (4) initiative, local and state agencies will have access to technical assistance and educational resources that will encourage the implementation of safer roadways for pedestrians. The Safe Transportation for Every Pedestrian (STEP) program is developing model policies for the selection and installation of pedestrian crossing safety countermeasures. Mrs. Blackburn and Ms. Brookshire will present model policies, based on best practices across the United States. Policy topics will also include the role of the State Highway Safety Plan, complete streets design, and public awareness efforts like Vision Zero - in support of improving pedestrian safety.
