Streets Transformed: Quick-Build Implementation of Complete Streets

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Two presentations will take place during this session.

Quickbuild Implementation of Complete Streets (Anthony Garcia): Much has been discussed and written about very short term demonstration projects that occur between one day and a week, but less is known about how to make projects with longer timelines, and more durable materials. This session will draw from a real life process in a small town context and illustrate how to build a temporary, but durable bike facility. What types of materials should be used? Who should be involved? How does the project get built? Panelists will cover the nuts and bolts of interim design and longer term demonstration projects. Panelists will discuss their experience with implementing Bike NWA, a 3 - 1 month-long demonstration projects around north west Arkansas.

Streets Transformed: Memphis’ Quick-Build Demonstration Projects (Nicholas Oyler):  In preparation for the conference, Memphis is planning a series of quick-build complete street demonstration projects in downtown.  The intent is to let these projects remain in place for at least a year before determining whether or not they should be implemented permanently.  We will conduct part of this session indoors for an overview of the projects, and the rest of the time will be spent visiting and touring them in person.  The projects will be within walking distance of The Peabody Hotel.
